Software Architect
Department: Manufacturing Systems - Research & Development
Manager: VP, Manufacturing Systems
Location: Troy, Michigan, USA
Job Purpose
The Software Architect position will be instrumental in further advancing the scope and breadth of VIA’s product suite that is centered on its core application, MAN-IT Business Atom Engineä.
Primary Responsibilities
§ Work within a team environment and/or independently to design and develop key functionality of a Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
§ Participate in VIA’s technical and functional roadmap definition.
§ Define development methodology best practices and develop a system to enforce adherence to the system.
§ Provide expertise in software development lifecycle improvement initiatives.
§ Promote ongoing acceptance of leading edge technologies.
§ Establish an effective system to transfer maintenance of application components and development of new software product to resources residing in remote locations.
§ Execute programming, testing, and implementation related tasks to support customer-based projects.
§ Convert requirements information into a functional specification that results in a production environment ready solution.
§ Manage workload to produce system components on time and with a high degree of quality.
§ Provide leadership in software troubleshooting, error correction, and performance optimization initiatives.
Knowledge and Experience Requirements
Required
§ Demonstrated experience in application design, development, integration, and testing of a large scale commercial of the shelf (COTS) product
§ Client communication protocol expertise including (TCP/IP, RS232, Digital IO, HTTP)
§ Experience with RSLinx, Control Logix processor architectures and interface design
§ Object oriented programming expertise
§ Microsoft .NET Framework, C# proficiency
§ N-Tier application design, development, and performance optimization experience
§ CE.NET development competency
§ Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle 9i proficiency
§ XML and .NET Remoting competency
§ Task and time management proficiency
Preferred
§ Automotive related application development experience
§ Manufacturing shop-floor software development
§ ERP system interface development
§ Source code management best practices knowledge
Education and Certifications
§ BS in Computer Science or similar
§ Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) – preferred

Knowledge and Experience Requirements
Required ▪ Object oriented programming expertise ▪ Web technologies (ASP.NET, DHTML) ▪ Microsoft .NET Framework ▪ Microsoft SQL Server ▪ XML and .NET Remoting competency ▪ Active Reports proficiency ▪ Demonstrated experience in application design, development, integration, and testing (min. 2 years) ▪ Task and time management proficiency ▪ Software quality assurance experience - authoring and executing functional test plans, stress testing
